Lil' update

So, it's been over a year since I wrote the last journal and about two years since I was what you would call active on dA. Posting a few shoots, answering a few comments and thanking for the favs'n'stuff was all that I really did every once in a while since then.

Now, this isn't one of those "hey, I'm back for good" journals. Mostly because I can't say if that'll be true. But I feel the artsy getting back. There are quite a few things I wanna try out. But lemme rant about this some other time (maybe).

I thought what I'd do, is post a little personal update for the few who might be interested.

In general most things are the same. And as usual I got my fingers in a few dozen interesting subjects.

For example, I started sword fencing a few months ago. Really a great workout and reawakened my interests in other sports. Kicked my butt to finally start free climbing as well, which I wanted to do for years. Got into juggling as well, but aside a few hours I couldn't train much.

I'm fully employed at the university now and all the new responsibilities are really interesting, but time killers as well. Now I'm officially commanding people around and manage projects (not just de facto).

Overall it feels like a big personal growth. Or in the better terms, I'm levelling up.

On the downside, my last shooting was in December and ever since I didn't do much. No shootings, no other art or stuff that would be worth mentioning. Empty canvases, unfinished digital images, raw videos and untouched soapstones and wood blanks. No typography, no doodles. I even rejected all requests on flyers and stuff. The most creative stuff was layouting some documentations.

But I'd say I stayed blank for long enough. Let's see what I could do.

Well, that should do it for the moment.

Oh yeah, I'm really tempted this time to delete all messages in my message center. Did I miss anything important?

PS: You know what is kinda crazy? I just managed to finish some projects and get some spare time... but instead of doing some relaxing (as I originally planned) on the weekend, I already know that I will try to organize my art stuff to see what I can do. M. was right, some day I'll burn out... but I don't have time to care ;) .

Finally a new journal... with feature tagging

Rant & News

Well, it's about time I write another journal. Or to be precise, that I write one at all. Has been ages since the last real journal.

As you probably already noticed, I'm photographing again. With more power than ever. Taking a break really helped me to redefine my view on photography and art in general, find new creativity and more energy to do it. (Why I took this break will be a topic on a journal to come.) For many months I've been longing to work on something artsy again. And then I just started. Feels good to be back. Right now, I have some kind of a big buffer of decent to good photos that just need to be prepared for publishing. (Actually I can't keep up with the stuff I have to do to send back to the models.) And I also got more than enough ideas and plans to keep me going for ages. I'm also going to learn and try more new stuff in digital art. Let's see how I can keep up with that.

Well, enough for now.

Looking at my journal I figured I really need to overhaul it. Already have a general idea of what direction I want to take. I will (hopefully find the time to) do this till the next journal. (German lessons will be back as well of course.)

Till then, a tagging game.

Feature

For some reason I wasn't fully aware of what I'm doing when I posted a comment to Suse's journal. But then again it's a good way to catch up with all the features I've been missing.

I copied (and modified) this from *SuseDolAmroth - wanna play too? Here is how it works:

The first 10 people to comment (and include a :moo: emoticon) will get three thumbnails of their works featured in my journal - I get to choose which ones. The deal is, you must then post a journal and feature 10 more people the same way, as well as feature three thumbnails of my work – which you get to choose!

So, who's in? I'll start with the bottom slot and then fill them up to the top - makes it easier to see how many are still open.

I bought a fantastic new computer mouse. (Did you expect anything interesting here?)

Don't mind this journal, I'm just pushing the last one away from the front page.

Okay, small update (just because you've read this far... or read it at all). Busy as always, but new submissions coming up. Oh and still lazy.. working hard on that, but get's difficult these days...

*ponder*... oh right, I redesigned my gallery site... just took two years or so (and is still incomplete)... for taking that long... it sucks.. but at least better than the last one.

Alive & Blog

I know computers, I know art.
I know how to dance and know how to fart.
Of course from the later I restrain myself.
In RPGs I sometimes even play an elf.
I'm an allrounder, I try everything once in a while.
Even the rhyming, though it's not worthwhile.
No matter how you look at it, even if you attack,
all I am is just another hack.

(I know my rhyming is terrible, but this is all I got after a few minutes and a bit lameness suits me ;) .)

hack, n

1. In computer terms a (often called "dirty") temporary makeshift solution, also known as the duct tape of software. A hack is as well a program, piece of software or technique to break into a computer.
2. A mediocre, sloppy, but overrated practitioner of some sort, especially in world of literatur (and journalism). See also: charlatan; schmuck
3. An old, over-worked horse.

This is a weak attempt to make up for not being here often. I just don't have that much time for art right now and thus don't come to dA much as well. But then again I want to keep some of you informed on what I'm doing and stuff. Of course I could follow some suggestions and join a bazillion other communities like MySpace, Facebook and whatever they're called, as well as filling up my hard disc with instant messengers of all kind. But if I had time for that, I could arrange a photo shooting as well.

So I give you this link to my (fairly) new blog, which is mostly in English. If you're interested, just come over and take a look.

So, in the spirit of shameless self advertising, here's the link again. I know the design sucks, but I'll get back to that in the next months... probably.

I hope that sometime next year I'll be back for more here on dA. We'll see. Right now I'm working more on my tech interests. But maybe I can combine some things.

That's all I can give you right now. I'm sorry and hope you understand. I am not dead and if you'd like to verify that, just check the blog.

I wish you all a very merry Christmas (or whatever you’re celebrating) and a Happy New Year.

Rant & News

No, I'm not gone again. I'm just busy, distracted and not home much these days. Can't even spare some time at work with those deadlines on my back. Speaking of work. There are some interesting projects I'm working on. One of them is to make some kind of YouTube for the university. Who would've thought I ever get to use my moviemaking experience for work. But I also figured out, that it can be quite a problem to work on so many fields, since I have several projects at the moment, which are completely different from each other.

On the brighter side, I got a new assistant as well. I always thought that those help you get some more time, but right now it's quite the opposite... well, after some training it might work out.

I know I wanted to write a little journal about my journey into 3D and I got a draft about it... but no time to finish it and I didn't even find the time to open Blender in the last few weeks.

So it looks like I'm back to my old problem. No time. But it's different, since I enjoy what I'm doing, it's not even stressful. But don't worry. Getting some spare time for dA and art is one of my higher priorities.

A certain someone must be really angry with me about a belated mail. So I got tagged. (Just kidding... I hope.) I first thought I'd fill the list with some stuff I wrote above... but figured that would be too lame, even for me. For historical interests, I did something similar back then.

8 RANDOM FACTS ABOUT ME:
  • Post these rules.
  • Each person tagged must post 8 random (hopefully interesting) facts about themselves.
  • Tags should write a journal of these facts.
  • At the end of the post 8 more bloggers are tagged and named.
  • Go to their page and leave a comment telling them that they're tagged.

  1. My English started to suck, since I didn't visit dA as frequently anymore.
  2. I'm about to learn dancing. Yes, you can trust your eyes. Dancing. Beware women's feet... and/or hearts.
  3. Sledge Hammer, Dr. Perry Cox and Alan Shore are my role models.
  4. I'm a dude and still like to hear James Blunt.
  5. Besides owning several dozens of books I haven't read yet, I also own four movie DVDs, the same amount of show season and one CD which I never played. Speaking of played, there are also several games which never saw my computer from the inside. So, what is the problem? Consumerism or time? (Well, I just inserted the CD, to get at least that one done.)
  6. My bike is parked in my kitchen.
  7. I'm a sucker for Gewürzspekulatius (spiced cookies) and having them in the shops is one of the best parts of early Christmas trade.
  8. I never knew where the cool kids hang out.

  • I will tag the first person who reads this, hasn't done it before and states the they will do it. I will tag the second person who... well, you get the drill. As long as not at least eight people stated that they will do it, consider yourself tagged. (Yeah, I'm lazy ;) .)

Random thing about me you most likely didn't know (and probably don't even care) about.
Sometimes when I'm alone at night..... hey, wait a second, I already gave you 8 facts today... don't be greedy!
